Investors protest as share prices dip
Investors on Wednesday took to the street and ransacked two private cars near Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Bhaban in the city’s Motijheel area protesting the massive decline in price index at the stock market.
Thousands of investors brought out a procession at about 11:37am and blocked the road near the DSE Bhaban by setting fire to tyres, suspending vehicular movement on the road.
They became agitated and brought out another procession after the DSE general index went down by 487 points at about 12:07pm, share market sources said.
At one stage, the investors tried to enter the DSC office but were resistance by police.
The demonstrators staged sit-in in front of the bhaban and ransacked the private cars. The law enforcers charged batons on the protestors to disperse them.
The situation became normal at about 1:15pm.
However, the index recovered all the losses and increased by 40 points till filing of this report at about 2:00pm.
